Most of what older people are short of isn't care. It's company.
The systems around ageing are built for the medical part — assessments, hours of personal support, waitlists. They have very little to say about the ordinary afternoon: someone to talk to, someone to walk to the shops with, someone who notices the post has piled up.
That gap is usually filled by an adult child who lives two hours away and feels permanently behind. Hire a Grandkid exists to make it possible to hand a piece of that to someone reliable, at a price you can see in advance, without pretending it's medical care.
The boundary
Four things we've decided not to be.
A company's shape is mostly the list of things it turned down. This is ours, and we'd rather you know it before you sign up than after.
We are not a home-care agency
No nursing, no personal care, no medication. Those are regulated for good reasons and we are not regulated to do them. When a family needs that, the honest answer is a referral, not a stretched service.
We are not a medical device
Nothing here diagnoses, triages or predicts a health event. A wellbeing check is a question a person answered, presented as exactly that.
We are not a monitoring product
There is no camera, no always-on microphone and no continuous location trace of someone's home. If the thing you want is to watch a parent, we are the wrong company.
We are not a staffing agency
Companions choose which visits to accept and are never assigned. An offer they pass on costs them nothing and is not recorded against them.
How it's put together
Four rules the software actually enforces.
Not values on a wall — these are constraints in the platform, and the apps are built so they can't be worked around.
Money follows evidence
A charge captures after a visit is complete and past the safety gate — never before. An unresolved serious incident holds both the family's charge and the companion's payout until a person releases them.
Consent is a grant with an expiry
Access to a report, a location or an alert is granted for a purpose and for a period, by the person it concerns. Family membership is not itself a permission.
AI drafts, people decide
Voice and language models help someone say what they meant and write up what happened. They do not place calls, change accounts or submit reports. Every such action passes through a human confirmation.
A market opens when it's staffed
Not when the software supports it. A city goes live when enough vetted companions are in it to fill a visit reliably and its insurance, payments and support are in place.

Closed pilot in Toronto and the GTA.
Small on purpose. Every visit in the pilot is looked at by a person, which is only possible while the numbers are small — and it's how we find the things a spec doesn't.
